District News

Senior League Softball.

With the rule change for 2011, districts are permitted to charter the Senior League Softball division.  Just as league charters teams in a division and all resident players register and teams are created, all Senior League softball age players register with the district and teams are formed in the district.  District 1 is planning utilizing this format for 2011.  Once registrations are received, teams are formed based on geographic location.  We are hoping for three or four teams in District 1.  District 3 to the north is planning the same setup and we will schedule with them.  Leagues can decide if they have any 14 year olds they would like to play up in the Senior Division.

The advantage in doing this is now we can have a Junior League Softball program that we have not been able to have for the past several years.  The junior league age girls had to play with the senior league age girls as there were not enough senior girls to create a team and the teams had to be chartered as Senior League teams.  Several leagues had teams with only junior aged girls playing against teams with several senior girls.  This is also an advantage to the senior league aged girls as they will be playing games with other senior league aged girls.

Any questions can be directed to the District 1 Senior Softball director Terry Brock, (814) 425-3853, terich@windstream.net, or District 1 Administrator Bill Dithrich, (814) 337-3244, wkdith@zoominternet.net.

Meetings

All local Little Leagues are required to conduct background checks on Managers, Coaches, Board of Directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams.  The process involves the volunteer filling out the Little League Volunteer application.  Click here for the form.  If you cannot open the form, you need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.  Click here  The completed form is then turned in to league officials who will then conduct a nationwide background check. (Note: The United States Department of Justice National Public Registry is free and available at www.nsopr.gov.  Leagues can conduct a more thorough background check through LexisNexis with 125 free checks at http://littleleague.lexisnexis.com/.)  Volunteers can not assume any duties prior to approval by league officials.
